Repairing this Leaky Roof in East Point
On Friday, January 24th, our client in East Point had a leak in his kitchen that was causing the ceiling to stain and droop. He wanted it fixed, so he called us to do the job! We checked it out and found that the problem was with some shingles shingles below a vent and around a pipe boot. The vent and boot were close together and had failed, so they were letting water into the attic. The decking underneath was very soft so we bid to replace the shingles, tar paper, and decking in this area.
We first pulled up all the shingles in the affected area. We also cleared them out that were a bit further out so as to get to the rotted out decking. We pulled out the old pvc pipe boot and also the metal vent. We then cut out all the rotted decking and cleaned up the area to allow for the new decking which was one half inch plywood. The framing underneath was still intact so we did not have to rebuild or add to it. Once the new decking was installed, we then added the new felt. In repairs, we always use ice and water shield for felt underlayment. Finally, we reshingled with new shingles and added a new pipe boot. After cleaning up the metal box vent, we reinstalled it and reshingled around it.
